It seems to me that your reasoning contains the logical fallacy of "false dilemma".
You seem to be suggesting that there are only two options: (1) Allow the population to grow and find better ways to
manage our resources so that we can better handle the additional population, and (2) Kill people off to reduce the population.
However, there is an alternative option for dealing with future overpopulation: natural attrition (you
don't have to kill people off - everyone dies eventually) and limiting reproduction.
I am not suggesting that limiting reproduction is the best option, only that it is an alternative option to killing
people off. (I do not consider preventing people from being born to be the same as killing people off.)
I am also not suggesting that finding better ways to manage our resources so that we can better handle the population
we have is not a good idea. I think it is.
