A Reflection from Standing Bear Lake:

I asked the Master, "What great truth have you learned from all of this?"
The Master replied: "It's much easier to learn not to hope than it is to learn not to want. Without apathy, without oblivion, there is no serenity. There is only resignation."
"But," I asked, "Isn't oblivion a pathway to death?"
To this He replied: "And what if it is? Aren't we all on a pathway to death, whether we know it or not? And which is better? To pine for desires that cannot be attained, or to achieve the absence of suffering?"
And so I drank from the Waters of Lethe.
