The word "respect" is commonly used to represent either of these ideas and I believe that any dictionary can be used to verify this.
Most words have more than one commonly accepted meaning. This can make it difficult for philosophical discussion and as a result we sometimes have to stop and specify which particular definition of a word we are using in our statements. People often think that they are disagreeing philosophically when they are actually just using different definitions of the same word (which I believe is what has been happening here). Another common problem is the problem of equivocation - using more than one definition of the same word simultaneously. This can lead to errors in reasoning.
