It still depends on semantics. If the definition of altruism you are using assumes the concept of selflessness, then I agree with you. However, some people use the word altruism to mean the second definition that LadyTex posted (when Colette objected to the idea of altruism being evil, that seemed to be the definition she was using) and when using that definition I do not believe that altruism is either evil or contradictory. Basically, the word altruism is commonly used to represent more than one idea, and I believe that one of those ideas is debatably evil or contradictory and the other is not.
