"Assumption: ... The best way to deal with the problems facing us now is to focus on the future. This does not follow logically, if we are concerned with the people we already have on the planet, how does limiting future births help us? Isn't it more logical to deal with the too many people now? Especially if my concern is over myself and my group? Isn't it more logical to deal with what we are faced with now?"
Sometimes there is no immediate solution to a problem (and I believe that it's true in this case) and all we can do is focus on a solution for the future.
From my post 91:
"Another conclusion that can be reached is that there is no immediate solution to the overpopulation problem (short of killing people off which is obviously immoral) so we just have to accept that we have the number or people that we have and deal with the problems as best we can, but there are options for reducing the problem in the future (though those options are morally questionable as well)."
Less people is better than more.
This is a questionable proposition, but it does not necessarily lead to the conclusion that we should kill people off (an obviously immoral act) so that we have less people now. It could also lead to the conclusion that we accept a less than ideal situation in the present but take steps to reduce population in the future - possibly by limiting reproduction (a morally questionable act).
