It seems to me that there are multiple overlapping arguments going on here:
1. Does an overpopulation problem actually exist on planet earth?
2. What is it that determines if an overpopulation problem exists?
3. If we allow that one does actually exist, what are our options for dealing with it?
Nic made some arguments back in posts 41 and 42 addressing questions 1 and 2. He basically pointed out that resource availability is not the only consideration when answering these questions. I believe his arguments are worth considering.
My comments in post 63 regarding the "false dilemma" that I perceive in your reasoning have to do with question 3. Whenever you mention the Malthusian approach (which I must admit I know almost nothing about) you seem to be implying that the only option for dealing with overpopulation is killing people off - which might be correct if you're talking about an immediate solution. However, Nic mentioned in post 53 options that would help us to deal with future overpopulation - birth control and attrition. You seemed to imply in post 56 that Nic was supporting "active attrition" (equating it with killing people off) but I believe he was referring to natural attrition just as I was.
I do strongly agree with you that we need to find better ways to manage the resources we have for the sake of the population we already have. However, I don't have a clue how to go about doing that.
